In it, the Russian Foreign Minister rejects “Europe’s ultimatum.”

Politico refused to publish an article by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov titled “Ukraine, Europe, and Global Security,” in which Moscow dismissed European peace initiatives as an “ultimatum.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s press service published the article on its official website.

The piece, steeped in Russian propaganda narratives, states that Russia allegedly “is not refusing to engage with anyone”. At the same time, Russia perceives Europe as a party interested in the defeat of the Russian Federation.

“Accordingly, dialogue with Europe cannot be conducted as if it were an impartial outside observer,” Lavrov asserts.

Lavrov reiterated that Russia’s objectives in the war against Ukraine must be achieved, but once again failed to specify them. At the same time, the Russian foreign minister spoke of a multipolar world and the need to reform the security architecture.

“The main thing is that, for a substantive dialogue, we need to restore the trust that was undermined by the anti-Russian actions of the West—and Europe as part of it—in the post-Cold War era. Trust can only be restored through practical steps that demonstrate a sincere commitment to refraining from using diplomacy as a cover for expansionist ambitions. Trust cannot be restored, nor can dialogue be resumed, through ultimatums such as the one presented to Russia in London on June 7,” Lavrov concluded.

Earlier, the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 7, set out the conditions for a just peace in Ukraine.
