Polish President Karol Nawrocki has begun an official visit to the United States. The highlight of the trip will be his attendance at the UFC Freedom 250 gala dinner at the White House. It is expected that during the visit, Nawrocki will hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, with the main topics being security, the presence of U.S. troops in Poland, as well as economic and energy cooperation, reports “Polish Radio”.
Karol Nawrocki arrived in the U.S. on Saturday evening local time. On Sunday morning, the Polish head of state met with representatives of the Polish diaspora in Maryland and attended a church service.
The highlight of the program was the UFC Freedom 250 mixed martial arts gala, held on the grounds of the White House. The event is taking place on the 80th birthday of U.S. President Donald Trump and is part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States.
The official itinerary for the visit does not include a separate bilateral meeting between the leaders. However, Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Bureau at the Office of the President of Poland, stated that a conversation between Nawrocki and Trump will still take place during the Polish leader’s stay in Washington.
According to the Polish side, the talks will focus on security issues, bilateral relations, energy cooperation, and the development of economic ties.
Warsaw intends to pay particular attention to the topic of the U.S. military presence in Poland. The Polish authorities are interested not only in maintaining the current U.S. contingent but also in expanding it, as well as in a gradual transition from rotational troop deployments to a permanent presence.
Marcin Przydacz noted that Donald Trump had previously publicly stated the possibility of deploying an additional 5,000 U.S. troops to Poland. The Polish side is now hoping to secure more specific agreements regarding the timing, scale, and format of such a reinforcement.
Warsaw has officially proposed establishing a new permanent U.S. military base on Polish territory. In addition, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski previously expressed hope that the issue of former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziębro would be raised during discussions with the U.S. administration; however, details on this matter have not yet been disclosed.
