CNN: Russia Is Losing One Of Its Key Advantages In The War Against Ukraine

Rubles don't fight.

Russia’s massive advantage in manpower is gradually beginning to erode. It is becoming increasingly difficult for Moscow to make up for its battlefield losses in the war against Ukraine.

This is discussed in a detailed article CNN, published on Sunday, June 14.

The article notes that Russian men are being urged to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense to participate in the war against Ukraine, with promises of staggering sums and bonuses. However, the number of volunteers is declining.

The author of the article cites a statement by Nigel Gould-Davies, a senior fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), who pointed out that “there are signs that this incentive may no longer be working effectively, and that Russia has begun to lose more troops than it can recruit.”

“Rubles don’t fight,” he noted.

According to analysts, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will have to make even more unpopular decisions in the near future if he decides to continue the war against Ukraine.

CNN notes that the Kremlin has already sent tens of thousands of former prisoners to the front lines, received reinforcements in the form of North Korean soldiers, and is actively recruiting immigrants. It was recently announced that men who sign a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense could have debts of up to $140,000 written off.

At the same time, the shortage of men of draft age is already taking a toll on the entire Russian economy, which is facing a massive crisis in the labor market, the article notes.

According to Gould-Davies, Russia’s problem lies not only in finding people to send to the front lines, but also in a shortage of manpower.

According to some Western intelligence sources, approximately 500,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since the start of the full-scale war. Hundreds of thousands more men have left the country to escape conscription.

As for the Russian defense industry, there are signs that it is already operating at the limits of its capacity.

The Russian army has also been weakened by the fact that an increasing number of untrained soldiers and former prisoners of war are being sent to the front.

According to analysts, the Kremlin may announce a second forced mobilization and restrict travel abroad, especially for men of draft age.

CNN also notes that Ukraine’s advances in the use of UAVs and technology allow the Defense Forces to inflict far greater losses on Russia than at the start of the full-scale war.
