Lithuania Scrambled Fighter Jets Due To "unidentified Flying Objects"

Operations at Vilnius Airport were restricted.

A yellow alert was issued in Vilnius County, in Ukmergė, on the morning of October 3 due to a signal that appeared on the radar. Fighter jets were scrambled, according to the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

Residents received notifications from the Lithuanian Armed Forces urging them to be aware of safe locations and warning them not to approach suspicious objects if they are spotted, according to the emergency services portal.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces reported that a “target” was detected on radar on the morning of October 3.

“Fighter jets were scrambled to carry out a routine identification procedure,” the military department stated.

Later, the Lithuanian Armed Forces announced that the air alert had been lifted.

“We can resume our normal activities. The fighter jets did not detect any objects in the area, and an Air Force helicopter will conduct an additional survey of the area where the signal disappeared from the radars.”

Due to the air alert, operations at Vilnius Airport and the use of airspace were restricted for a short time.
