Posts featuring the leader of "Al-Qaeda" were discovered on his social media accounts.
The pilot who attacked the captain during a flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv and, according to media reports, attempted to take control of the plane, may be an Omani citizen Hamam al-Hammami. He had previously been suspended from flying in Oman due to suspicions of “extremist views.” This was reported by CNN and The Wall Street Journal.
According to media sources, including an Israeli official, the co-pilot on board was indeed Hamam al-Hammami. His LinkedIn profile shows that he worked for Oman Air and, from June 2025 to January 2026, for Royal Air Maroc.
A WSJ source claims that Oman had previously banned al-Hammami from flying due to suspicions about his radical views. After that, he was reportedly hired by flydubai.
A photo of the Al-Qaeda leader was found on social media
CNN discovered the pilot’s LinkedIn profile. About nine hours after the incident, two posts appeared there.
One of them featured footage from the cockpit of a Boeing 737 Max—the exact same model of aircraft al-Hammami was flying that day.
The other post, dated October 11, 2023, contained a video of an El Al aircraft at Dubai International Airport. At the end of the video were photos of Ayman al-Zawahiri — the second-in-command of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda — as well as Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, who carried out a suicide bombing in 2009 that killed nine people.
Media outlets also reported on al-Hammami’s posts on other social media platforms, which allegedly revealed his religious and misogynistic views.
Al-Hammami studied at Buckinghamshire New University in the United Kingdom. According to the publication’s sources, he graduated from the university in 2023 with a degree in “aviation management.”
