Bureaucracy has triumphed over common sense, and taxpayer money is going down the drain.

A Threads user with the username nastya.gordina shared her experience visiting the emergency room at Minsk Regional Clinical Hospital.

“A crowd of people,” she writes. “Some people are lying in the hallway as pale as a sheet, some are breathing their last, and some are slipping into a coma right there in the hallway. In just three hours, I received an unnecessary test result and a medical certificate stating things I hadn’t even been asked about or had checked.

The sense of absurdity is off the charts. Bureaucracy has triumphed over common sense; public funds are going down the drain. I don’t know what condition you’d have to be in to get help—maybe if they brought you in on a stretcher, bleeding out, unconscious, with peritonitis, a fever of 40, in the throes of death—maybe then.

Lines to see specialists, lines for diagnostic equipment, lines for surgery—even if you pay. For the second day in a row, I’ve been thinking about human life and its meaning. Lonely, elderly patients, waiting for help on a cold stretcher, look into your eyes with a plea for help, because they can no longer speak and are barely breathing. It seems like it shouldn’t be this way. How I wish I could put an end to all this suffering and torment.”
