The first in six months public appearance by Vladimir Putin was not without an embarrassing moment, which revealed that the meeting with the people was a pre-staged event.

After the Kremlin dictator arrived in Kazan, he was met by the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, and together they walked across the square, greeting members of the public.

In a video published by “Agency”, it is evident that as the delegation descends the steps of the Annunciation Cathedral, one of Vladimir Putin’s security guards, speaking into his walkie-talkie, refers to the crowd as “extras” and calls for them to be let out.

Vladimir Putin and Rustam Minnikhanov continue to chat, seemingly casually, with the crowd gathered in the square, asking where they’re from, but then hurriedly leave without waiting for their answers.

Vladimir Putin’s current hiatus from public appearances in Russia’s regions is the longest of his entire presidency. The last time the Kremlin dictator traveled within Russia was in November 2025.
