Bloomberg: Lithuania Could Derail Trump's Deal With The Lukashenko Regime

The Port of Klaipėda is the closest access point to the Baltic Sea for Belarus.

Lithuania has no intention of revising the ban on the transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers through EU territory, said the country's foreign minister Kęstutis Budris, according to Bloomberg.

Current restrictions prohibit the transit of Belarus-produced fertilizers through the territory of the European Union. According to Budris, Vilnius sees no grounds for changing the EU’s sanctions policy toward Belarus.

The agency notes that the ban could derail U.S. President Donald Trump’s plans to conclude a major fertilizer purchase deal with Minsk.

The U.S. leader announced yesterday that the U.S. is working with Minsk on a deal to purchase Belarusian potash. “The price will be significantly lower than what we currently pay Canada—this is great news for our farmers and ranchers,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The Lithuanian port of Klaipėda is the closest access point to the Baltic Sea for Belarus. Since March, Washington has been urging Vilnius to consider resuming the transit of Belarusian fertilizers through Lithuania. “We view this as a matter of bilateral relations that does not directly concern us,” Budris said following Trump’s statement on resuming supplies to Belarus.
