Moscow Ablaze After Record-Breaking Drone Attack

In Moscow, following a record-breaking drone attack, fires broke out at several locations. Footage of the aftermath of the nighttime strike is circulating online.
RBC-Ukraine has compiled photos and videos of the aftermath of the drone attack on the Russian capital on the night of September 20.
Russian authorities called this attack one of the largest ever. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that 450 drones were heading toward the capital.
After the attack, fires were reported in various areas of Moscow and the Moscow Region. Footage from the scene began appearing en masse online.
The Moscow Oil Refinery was hit
The main confirmed target was the “Gazpromneft-Moscow Oil Refinery” in the Kapotnya district.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that a large-scale fire broke out on the plant’s premises following the strike.
According to the General Staff, three production facilities were hit simultaneously: the AVT-6 primary refining unit, the integrated oil refining unit, and the isomerization unit.
Fire at the "Sadovod" Market
One of the facilities affected was the "Sadovod" market in Moscow. The Russian Telegram channel CHTD published footage showing smoke near the first building. According to the channel, some of the stores were closed.
The ASTRA Telegram channel also released a video of the strike on the market area.
The “Sadovoda” market had already been targeted in June. At that time, a fire was reported on the premises of the shopping complex.
Warehouses in Sofino Caught Fire
During a massive drone attack, a large fire engulfed part of a warehouse complex in the Moscow region. This refers to the “Sofyino” technology park, which has an estimated area of approximately 826,000–850,000 square meters.
The Sofino area is home to distribution and warehouse facilities belonging to major companies. These include Lamoda, Yandex, Wildberries, and Bosch/Siemens.
The Ukrainian side confirmed the destruction of the Moscow Oil Refinery.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the operation involved, in particular, the FP-1, RZ-100, MICH-2000, “Palyanitsa,” Vendetta, “February,” “Bars,” “Flamingo,” “January,” and Pelican were used during the operation.
