How much will the winners receive?
Nobel laureates will receive more money. The decision to increase the prize was made by the Nobel Foundation.
The foundation announced that, starting in 2026, the prize will be 12 million Swedish kronor in each category—1 million more than before. The total amount is approximately $1.22 million.
“This year we are celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Nobel Prize, and in connection with this, we are pleased to announce an increase in the prize amount by one million. By increasing the prize amount, we are upholding the long-term significance of this award and ensuring that the value of its monetary component is preserved over time,” says Hanna Scherne, Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation.
The prize has been awarded since 1901, and for a long time, laureates received 150,700 kronor. However, over the past 15 years, the prize amount has been revised on several occasions.
For example, in 2012, it was reduced from 10 million to 8 million kronor as part of a large-scale program to strengthen the Nobel Foundation’s financial position. Since then, the prize amount has been increased three times.
Traditionally, the laureates are announced between October 5 and 12. The award ceremony will take place on December 10 in Stockholm.
