The Russian Federation's Offensive Was Launched On Several Fronts At Once

Ukrainian forces have advanced near Slavyansk.
On August 23–24, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions on several sections of the front at once. At the same time, the occupiers made no confirmed advances on most fronts.
Ukrainian forces, in turn, were able to advance near Slavyansk and launched a counterattack in the north of the Kharkiv region. This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The Situation in the Sumy Oblast
In the north of the Sumy Oblast, Russian troops continued offensive operations on August 23 and 24, but ISW analysts did not record any confirmed advances. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have captured the settlement of Pervoye Maya, northwest of Sumy.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a counterattack in the Kharkiv region
“Russian troops continued offensive operations in the north of the Kharkiv region on August 23 and 24, but did not advance because Ukrainian forces launched a counterattack. A Russian military blogger stated on August 23 that Ukrainian forces had counterattacked near Volchansk,” the ISW notes.
The Russians also attacked in the direction of Velykyi Burluk, but without success. On August 24, they struck a Ukrainian position in Prikolotne with a FAB-3000 aerial bomb.
Russian forces made no gains in the Kupiansk and Borova areas
In the Kupiansk sector, the occupying forces continued their attacks on August 23–24 but were unable to advance.
Attacks in the direction of Borova also ended without success. Geolocation footage shows that Ukrainian forces are holding their positions in the Novoplatonivka area.
Meanwhile, the Russians continue to strike Ukrainian logistics and infrastructure in the Kupiansk, Borova, and Izium areas. According to Russian military bloggers, Izyum remains an important Ukrainian rear logistics and command center, which is why the occupiers are attempting to disrupt supplies to Ukrainian troops and counter the operation of drones.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have advanced near Slavyansk
On the Donetsk front, Ukrainian forces recently advanced east of Dibrova and southwest of Lyman. This is confirmed by geolocated footage published on August 23.
Meanwhile, Russian forces are attempting to isolate Ukrainian positions near Nikolaevka, east of Slavyansk. However, even Russian sources acknowledge that the occupiers were unable to gain a foothold in Zapovedne. The area around the village remains a “gray zone.”
The Russians also launched attacks in the Konstantinovka and Dobropillya sectors but failed to advance.
The occupiers also attacked in the Dobropillya tactical area. The ISW did not record any confirmed advances there. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have captured Kucherov Yar, northeast of Dobropillya.
However, geolocated imagery published on August 22 indicates that Ukrainian forces are holding their positions in Hannovka, north of Dobropillya—an area where Russian sources had previously claimed their forces were present.
What’s Happening on the Pokrovsk Front
On the Pokrovsk front, Russian troops have also failed to demonstrate any confirmed advances. Their attacks on both the Novopavlovsk and Oleksandrivsk sectors were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to strike Russian military and logistical facilities in the rear. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ukrainian forces struck logistics depots in the occupied cities of Stepne and Khrustalnyi in the Luhansk region. A strike on a fuel and lubricants depot in Dovzhansk was also reported.
