It Has Been Revealed What Syrsky And Gnatov Will Be Doing After Their Resignation

The former commanders-in-chief and chiefs of staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have experience and expertise.

Following their dismissal from their posts, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi and former Chief of the General Staff Andriy Gnativ will likely not be involved in the operational command of the troops. At the same time, their experience and professional expertise may be utilized in other areas.

According to RBC-Ukraine reports, citing its own informed source, Syrsky and Gnativ will not be involved in operational activities following their resignation.

According to the publication’s source, both military officers may continue to be involved in operations, but no longer as commanders making operational decisions. It is expected that they will be able to apply their experience in the areas of strategic planning, expert analysis, and advisory work.

The source noted that their knowledge and professional experience remain valuable to the defense sector, so they may be called upon for intellectual and conceptual work.

At the same time, according to the source, one possible area of future activity for Alexander Syrsky is the military education system. A final decision regarding his future position has not yet been made.

“They will definitely not be involved in operational activities. They have the knowledge and experience, so they will be engaged as an intellectual and strategic resource. Syrsky may take on some position within the military education system—but that remains to be seen,” — said a source speaking to the publication.

At the same time, in his latest post, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that during the meeting, further areas of work had already been identified for former Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and General Andriy Gnativ.

Syrsky’s Dismissal—What Is Known About It

As a reminder, on the evening of July 21, news broke of Oleksandr Syrskyi’s dismissal from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, although there was no official confirmation at that time. Prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held separate meetings with former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Syrskyy himself, and subsequently announced personnel changes in the military leadership.

In particular, the reason for Oleksandr Syrskyi’s dismissal was the protests that had been ongoing for several days in various cities across Ukraine. The protesters opposed the resignation of Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov and simultaneously called for Syrsky to be relieved of his duties as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As a result, on July 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Mykhailo Drapaty as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the head of state, an updated structure for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has already been determined in collaboration with the new leadership.
