Andrei Voynich: Prisons In Belarus Are A Microcosm Of The State

The management system and the hierarchy—they're exactly the same.

At some companies in Belarus, salaries have not been raised for nine years. Instead, workers are forced to attend propaganda lectures and listen to historical myths. This was reported by Andrei Voynich , coordinator of the “European Belarus” civic campaign and a former political prisoner .

“Today I want to explain why the Republic of Belarus is, in essence, a concentration camp,” he says in video posted on Facebook. — In fact, I can compare it to a camp or a prison, because a camp or a prison in Belarus is a miniature version of the state. The system of governance, the hierarchy—everything is exactly the same.

I get quite a few messages from various companies, schools, and hospitals. People tell me, for example, that employees are really fed up with the lectures.

Workers are regularly gathered, taken away from their work, and given lectures.

It’s interesting that the lectures given to prisoners in Belarusian camps are identical to those given to ordinary people who are free. They cover topics such as the genocide of the Belarusian people by the Germans, World War II in general—or more precisely, the part of it known as the Great Patriotic War—fascism, and Bandera.

People are saying they’re so fed up with this that it’s just unbearable—they don’t even want to go to work.

If you miss a lecture, they take away your bonus. This is specifically the situation at BMZ.

The ideologues earn three to four times more than regular employees at the same hospital.

And these ideologues talk about how well Belarusians in a country where Lukashenko is in power. Meanwhile, the salaries of these very Belarusians haven’t actually been raised for several years.
