Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni plans to propose a candidate for the EU’s chief negotiator on the Russia-Ukraine war at the upcoming EU summit.
According to The Guardian, she stated this in comments to the media following the G7 summit.
Meloni noted that during the G7 meeting, the leaders “reached an agreement” with U.S. President Donald Trump on issues related to Ukraine, adding that this “cannot always be taken for granted.”
The Italian prime minister also stated that at this week’s EU summit in Brussels, she will propose a candidate to serve as the European Union’s negotiator in the peace talks regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war.
She noted that this should be a representative from a “medium-sized country,” rather than one of the largest EU member states.
The summit is scheduled for June 18–19.
