The German chancellor announced a breakthrough.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz praised the G7’s joint declaration in support of Ukraine, adopted at the summit in Evian, France.
This was reported by The Guardian on Wednesday, June 17.
“This is the first time since Donald Trump took office as president that we have issued a joint declaration at a G7 summit and reached agreement on the major foreign and security policy issues of our time. I consider this a real success,” Merz said.
“This sets a new tone, particularly with regard to transatlantic unity and resolve,” the German chancellor noted.
The Group of Seven (G7) leaders’ summit took place from June 15 to 17 in France, in the resort town of Évian-les-Bains.
