Flights From Minsk Airport Are Being Rescheduled Due To Drones

The flight to Istanbul was delayed by five hours.

Belarusians are posting on social media about flight delays at Minsk National Airport.

“Good afternoon. What’s going on with today’s Minsk–Istanbul flights? Starting at 7:00 a.m., there have been delays every hour, and tomorrow’s flight is already delayed by five hours?” — asks a user with the handle olgashelushkov on Threads.

Other passengers reported encountering a similar problem on other flights. The website Charter97.org features some comments:

— My flight tomorrow at 8:05 a.m. has been rescheduled to 12:00 p.m.; I won’t make my connecting flight. We’re sitting here wondering what to do.

— We’re in the same boat—our flight leaves on June 19, but it looks like it’s on the same plane.

— Same here, and we won’t make it tomorrow.

— We’re also stuck in Istanbul, waiting for our flight to Minsk. The layover is 14 hours.

— All you can do is wait; many people flying to Istanbul are in the same boat—they won’t make their connecting flights.

One commenter explained the reason for the flight delays—flights whose routes pass through southwestern Russia, close to the border with Ukraine:

“Airspace closures in Russia due to drones—that’s exactly why flights are constantly being rescheduled. And it’ll stay that way for the foreseeable future. I don’t think I need to explain the reason.”
