Vitebsk Region Is Losing Children

Shocking numbers.

Vitebsk statistics for the International Children's Day showed how the children's infrastructure of the region has changed in two years. On January 1, 2024 there were 496 preschool institutions in the region, and on January 1, 2026 there were 467. Minus 29 kindergartens, writes "Vitebsk, I'm walking".

Obviously, this is due to a major reduction in the number of children in the region: there were 193,087, became 182,730. That is, for two years Vitebsk region has lost 10,357 children - in fact, the population of a small district center (and if we take Rossonsky district, for example, the entire district).

The number of institutions of general secondary education has also decreased: 339 schools against 328 two years later. Children's art schools became 53 instead of 57, club formations - 1191 instead of 1311.

There are even fewer pediatricians: 394 instead of 437. At the same time, the relative indicator of the number of pediatricians is also decreasing: 22 pediatricians per 10 thousand children against 22.6 in 2024.
