At least 12 people were detained in Navapolatsk, all detainees were women, as "Vitsiebskaya Viasna" reports. It happened on April 23, but it became known only now.
All the detainees were searched at home, several people were immediately taken to the detention center in Vitsebsk, eight were questioned in Navapolatsk and released the same evening. As of Tuesday, April 28, two people remain in custody.
One of the detainees was found to have a subscription to an "extremist" resource in social networks. The woman was kept in the detention center for three days pending trial, and eventually ended up with a fine.
Those who were released are under a non-deportation and non-disclosure undertaking.
According to human rights activists, the detentions may be related to the recent recognition of several cultural initiatives as "extremist organizations. There are also known about detentions in Slonim, Brest and Zhodzina.
