The newly created ARES Military Expert Council under the AFU Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky is headed by the former Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief of NATO's Joint Forces in Europe Richard Shirreff. This UNIAN was reported in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It is noted that British General Shirreff also became Syrskyy's main foreign military adviser.
At the meeting Syrskyy informed Shirreff about the operational situation on the front, the use of new tactics and types of weapons. They also discussed the directions of further work of the ARES (Allied Reform and Expert Support) Military Expert Council.
The AFU General Staff notes that the ARES Council included high-ranking military experts from partner countries, in particular, Lieutenant General Pavel Matsko, former deputy chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces. According to the Glavkom, interest in participation in the council among Western generals is growing.
"The ARES Council will become a permanent and effective channel of communication between the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the professional military community of partner countries. Its work will contribute to improving the quality of management decisions and accelerating the institutional development of the AFU by introducing international experience," Syrskyy said.
He emphasized that Ukraine is ready to share its own combat experience with partner armies. "We have a unique combat experience - the experience of the most large-scale and technological war of the XXI century," the AFU chief emphasized.
Syrsky notes that Shirreff has already started the practical work of the council and outlined specific areas of activity, particularly in the field of military-strategic analysis.
For reference. Shirreff served as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO's Combined Forces - the second most important military post in the Alliance - from 2011-2014. He is the author of the book "2017: War with Russia," in which he warned Western governments of Moscow's aggressive intentions long before the full-scale invasion.
