This is the most expensive military budget in modern U.S. history.
The Pentagon has requested an unprecedented $1.5 trillion for fiscal year 2027. It is the most expensive military budget in modern U.S. history, up 42% from last year.
This is reported by Military Times.
Trump's plan calls for a total defense overhaul. A layered Golden Dome air defense shield, artificial intelligence and unmanned systems are prioritized. No money is spared - the Air Force will receive 33.6% more funding, the Navy - 24.3%, and the Army - 23.9%. Military personnel are also promised a 5-7% pay raise.
Deputy Secretary of War and Chief Financial Officer Jules J. Hurst III said the country faces the most complex threat environment in 250 years. The United States' adversaries are rapidly evolving in all areas, from land to space.
"This is an investment in the United States military that is being factored in for a generation," Hearst emphasized.
"Gold Fleet" and Trump-class battleships
The Pentagon's proposal calls for a powerful "Gold Fleet." The centerpiece will be the new Trump-class battleships, which are planned to cost more than $65 billion to build.
There are 18 warships and 16 support vessels. America has not seen such a shipbuilding request since 1962. The fleet is to be the backbone of American dominance in the world's oceans.
Drone Army and Artificial Intelligence
Since drones, not airplanes, now dominate the skies, $53.6 billion is being allocated for autonomous platforms and UAVs. Another $21 billion will go toward technology to combat enemy drones.
The U.S. will develop advanced unmanned systems:
Collaborative Combat Aircraft (unmanned slave aircraft);
MQ-25 (fuel drones);
next-generation munitions systems.
Separately, $64.5 billion will go toward missiles, armored vehicles and helicopters. The list of purchases includes proven Patriot and THAAD interceptors, as well as precision strike missiles.
Conflict of priorities: army vs. medicine
The budget has already caused a scandal, as the army's funding was planned before the start of Operation Epic Fury against Iran, which began on February 28. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth hinted: The Pentagon will need another $200 billion from above to support the fighting.
A coalition of 289 public interest groups has already urged lawmakers to reject the request. They call it "highly irresponsible."
"Funding the irresponsible Pentagon with more than $1 trillion while underfunding programs responsible for human needs undermines our security, preventing us from investing in the shared prosperity that comes from more housing, health care, climate and public health protections, ending hunger and providing quality public education," the activists said in a statement.
Donald Trump During a closed-door Easter dinner, he explained that social programs should be funded by states, not the federal government.
"We're fighting wars. We can't do child care ourselves. Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things. They can do it at the state level, you can't do it at the federal level. We have to take care of one thing: military defense. We have to defend the country," said the President of the United States.
