Germany Will Form Its First Drone Regiment

The unit is equipped with drones that have a range of up to 500 kilometers.

The German Armed Forces plan to establish their first drone regiment.

This was announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, as quoted by dpa.

According to the minister, the unit will consist of 600 personnel and be equipped with drones capable of flying up to 500 kilometers.

“Anyone who wants to gain an advantage on land must master combat operations using unmanned systems,” Pistorius emphasized.

The new unit will be tasked with “pooling capabilities and gaining momentum,” he added.

This applies not only to aerial systems but also to unmanned ground systems, the German defense minister clarified.

“The regiment will cover ranges from the immediate vicinity up to 500 kilometers, and it is crucial that the regiment have its own electronic warfare company,” Pistorius noted.
