WSJ: U.S. Sends Third Aircraft Carrier To The Middle East

Trump intends to resume strikes against Iran after the midterm elections.
The United States is deploying a third strike carrier strike group and additional Marine Corps ships to the Middle East. The number of U.S. troops in the region will increase by 9,000 to 10,000.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing high-ranking officials. The newspaper speculates that this is linked to U.S. President Donald Trump’s intention to resume strikes against Iran after the midterm elections.
According to the newspaper’s sources, ships, Marines, and sailors will arrive in the region in late November. The aircraft carrier *Theodore Roosevelt* left its home port of San Diego on Sunday, and three Marine Corps ships departed the port on Monday.
There are currently two aircraft carriers in the region—the “George H.W. Bush” and the “George Washington.” The total number of U.S. troops in the region is estimated at more than 50,000. The newspaper notes that following the arrival of the “Theodore Roosevelt,” the “George Washington” may return to its permanent homeport at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. If it remains in the region, however, there will be three U.S. Navy carrier strike groups stationed there simultaneously for the first time since April of this year.
Representatives from the White House and the U.S. Department of Defense did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment.
