After the negotiations reached an impasse.
On Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded that the Iranian delegation to the UN General Assembly leave the country immediately after negotiations reached an impasse.
This was reported by Axios.
According to the publication, on Monday morning the White House believed that progress could be made during the day in the negotiations with Iran. However, by the end of the day, it became clear that the negotiations had reached an impasse.
Then, on Monday evening, on Rubio’s orders, the U.S. Mission to the UN informed the Iranian Mission to the UN that the delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi must leave New York immediately.
“Secretary of State Rubio expelled the Iranian delegation, which had been there too long. The UN General Assembly had ended, so it was time for them to leave,” said a U.S. official.
As a result, the Iranian delegation, including Arakchi, headed to the airport a few hours later and boarded a flight from New York to Doha at 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
A second source confirmed that the U.S. had demanded that the Iranian delegation leave the country, but added that Arakchi was scheduled to return to Tehran on Monday evening in any case.
According to regional sources, Qatari mediators are continuing negotiations with both sides regarding the proposed compromise.
“Maybe I’ll blow them up. We have to make that decision. We’ll either blow them up or make a deal. But the time is running out. One way or another, this will end very soon,” U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Wednesday, responding to a question about how he could strike a deal with a regime he calls “crazy.”
