You couldn't come up with a better illustration of officials' empty rhetoric.
A whole delegation of high-ranking officials arrived at the regional “Dozhinki” festival in Korelichi. In addition to the regional governor Yuri Karaev and Chief Inspector Konstantin Burak, the following officials were also present: Security Council Secretary Alexander Volfovich, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs Natalia Petkevich, the head of the National Academy of Sciences Vladimir Karanik, the chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Yuri Senko, and others.
And while Karaev limited himself in his welcoming speech to congratulating everyone present on the holiday, Volfovich could not resist the temptation to link the topic of the harvest to external threats.
“Look at what’s going on in the world today. New kinds of threats are emerging, along with various digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and so on. Robots, unmanned aerial and ground systems are trying to replace humans. In the West, what matters to people is being pushed to the background.
But in our country, there is a holiday that we celebrate in every region, honoring people connected to the land—our combine operators and rural workers,” the Security Council chairman declared, as if speaking from a besieged fortress.
Volfovich recalled that it was thanks to Lukashenko 30 years ago that the tradition of celebrating “Dozhinki” began, a tradition that “demonstrates and shows what our country is all about.”
We pose no threat to anyone; we make no demands on anyone. We toil; we work. Our brand is food security, peace, and order on earth. That is why this holiday truly reflects both our domestic and foreign policies.
Apparently, to emphasize how we “pose no threat to anyone” and “simply work hard,” an interactive area involving law enforcement officers was set up at the harvest festival in Korelichi.
And now the state media, alongside Volfovich’s “peace-loving” speeches, is publishing photos of children posing with grenade launchers and police batons.
You couldn’t come up with a better illustration for the hypocritical speeches of officials who have endorsed the militarization of children.
