Trump: The U.S. And Cuba Will Reach A Deal Without Hostilities

The Cuban side also issued a statement calling for dialogue.

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that the United States and Cuba will reach an agreement, and that this will happen without the need for military action.

“I would say that we will strike a deal with Cuba. I don’t think we’ll need the military. We want to help Cuba; we want to open up Cuba to our people,” Trump told reporters before leaving for Tennessee.

Earlier this week, the U.S. president addressed the UN General Assembly, where he called Cuba a failed state and declared that “freedom will come” to the island. During that speech, the Cuban delegation walked out of the hall.

Also on Saturday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated at the UN that Cuba will always be open to dialogue with the U.S. However, he declined to comment on Trump’s remarks.

“We are open to commercial and business relations with American companies, just as we are with any other country,” said Rodríguez, while at the same time condemning the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba.
