France Will Strengthen Ukraine's Air Defense

Macron explained what would be delivered to Kyiv.

French President Emmanuel Macron, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the U.S., announced the signing of a contract to supply radars and transfer interceptors to Ukraine. He posted this on X on September 22.

Macron did not specify the quantity of the weapons or the delivery schedule.

The French leader emphasized that Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure threaten to leave millions of families without heat and electricity. According to him, France will help Ukraine get through the winter, and the G7 energy group will also be involved in providing support.

In addition, Macron reported that he discussed support for Ukraine, the prospect of an energy truce, and a moratorium in the Black Sea with U.S. President Donald Trump. He said that France supports these ideas.

“This will be one of the key issues in the negotiations, which must resume and lead to a just and lasting peace,” the French president added.

After meeting with Macron, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to procure additional SAMP/T air defense systems and missiles for them using funds from an EU loan.

“We are continuing to work on the possibility of manufacturing such air defense systems and their missiles in Ukraine, as well as on the Freyja anti-ballistic missile program in collaboration with our partners. We expect to see the first results as early as this year,” the Ukrainian president wrote on X.
