A Russian Woman On The Behavior Of Her Compatriots: What A Shame! Not All Of Us Are Like That

It's just that not all Russian citizens realize that the Soviet Union collapsed a long time ago.

Belarusians shared several stories about how Russians behave in our country.

“I was flying from St. Petersburg to Minsk on a plane, and there was a couple sitting next to me,” writes katrin_alice_blond on Threads katrin_alice_blond. “They asked me about cell service. I told them everything, including where to buy a SIM card and how to set up roaming. Their response: ‘We don’t need roaming in the regions.’

I’m sorry, but with that kind of attitude, I have absolutely no desire to help. If you don’t have a strong sense that Russians here won’t just smile at you for no reason, you’d better not go to Belarus, honestly. If you’re a reasonable person who understands another country’s sovereignty and is willing to accept its rules, currency, and norms—we’re happy to have you here.”

Another Belarusian woman alanla_09 posted a screenshot of a social media conversation where, in response to her words written in her native language, a Russian man replied: “Write in Russian—it’s the most important language in Belarus.”

Users from both Belarus and Russia reacted to the posts. The website Charter97.org shares some of the comments:

- What a shame... Honestly, we’re not all like that; news of the collapse of the USSR has already reached us.

- We Russians ourselves take a dim view of such behavior.

- I really want to visit Belarus—it’s beautiful there—but every time I see a post or comment like this from Belarusians, it makes me feel uncomfortable.

- Just behave reasonably, and no one will say a word to you. But for some reason, incredibly enough, when I lived in Mogilev—where there are plenty of cars with Russian license plates—it was precisely those drivers who exhibited the most reckless and inappropriate behavior on the road. Strange, isn’t it?
