The Prime Minister Of Canada Announced The Launch Of A National Drone Market

One-third of the UAVs produced will be transferred to Ukraine.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the creation of the Defence Drone Initiative Marketplace (DDIM) Supply Arrangement—a national digital drone marketplace that will connect operators and end users with the Canadian defense ecosystem.

According to Karni, this will accelerate the search for, acquisition, and deployment of capabilities related to unmanned systems and defense against them.
“…I must admit that our armed forces currently have approximately 2,000 drones. In the coming years, we’ll need millions. That’s why, earlier this year, our government—the Government of Canada—launched the Defense Drone Initiative, aimed at expanding domestic UAV production. This initiative will provide the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canada Border Services Agency with secure and reliable world-class unmanned systems,” Carney stated during a press briefing alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, Canada is taking important steps to develop its capabilities in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and to deepen its partnership with Ukraine. Carney noted that the launch of a national drone market for the Canadian Armed Forces will enable the country to produce millions of drones over the next two years.
“Today’s contracts will increase the number of drones available to the Canadian Air Force tenfold. It is important that one-third of all the drones we produce will go to support Ukraine’s defense,” the prime minister said.
On September 9, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska arrived in Canada for a visit that will last until September 11.
On September 10, the head of state announced that he had met with Carney and discussed the winter support package with him.

The document states that Canada will continue to meet Ukraine’s most pressing military needs and support Operation UNIFIER, which has been extended through 2029.
In addition, Ottawa will continue to strengthen the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with a particular focus on the urgent need for air defense systems and interceptors. Canada will continue to provide training, military equipment, ammunition, and other critically important military support.
