Portnikov Explained How To Respond To The Kremlin's Statements
Vitaly Portnikov

Putin is trying to hide his helplessness.

Putin isn't making threats to intimidate Ukrainians, but simply forced to react in some way to Ukraine’s constant strikes on Russian territory, explained Ukrainian journalist and political analyst Vitaly Portnikov.

In his view, the Kremlin leader is trying to pretend that he is “great and powerful” to hide his true helplessness; however, his promise to take revenge on the Ukrainians will in no way compensate the Russian victims for their losses.

The columnist shared his views on Putin’s latest “scare tactics” on his YouTube channel.

“It turns out that the game of destroying infrastructure can be played by two sides, so let’s not take the Kremlin leader’s statement as actual threats to launch retaliatory strikes, but rather as an acknowledgment of the fact that Ukrainian strikes against the Russian Federation’s economy are achieving their goals, and that even during the election campaign, Putin is forced to respond to developments that Russian citizens simply cannot ignore,” — Portnikov shed light on the situation.

“Instead of promising these disoriented, unfortunate citizens an end to the brutal and unjust war he continues to wage against a neighboring country, he promises them revenge, as if revenge will restore their goods, their businesses, their ability to survive—which they will soon begin to lose after every new strike by Ukraine on every new marketplace—because this is an economic crisis, a crisis for small and medium-sized businesses, it is unemployment, it is a lack of money, it is the inability to feed one’s family. And what does Putin tell his citizens, who are literally facing the prospect of economic collapse? That he will take revenge, as if that were supposed to make things easier for them,” the journalist added.
