Strong Winds Left About 100 Communities In The Vitebsk Region Without Power

The storm raged particularly fiercely in three districts.

On the morning of August 23, about 100 settlements in the Vitebsk Region were left completely or partially without power due to strong winds. The highest number of power outages was recorded in the Verkhnedvinsk, Polotsk, and Braslav districts, according to RUE “Vitebskenergo.”

As of 9:30 a.m., emergency repair work was underway on 23 10-kV power lines. At the same time, utility workers were responding to more than 200 customer reports regarding the 0.4 kV grid.

Power system employees have been working around the clock since August 22, including at night: clearing fallen trees and branches from power lines, repairing damaged sections of distribution networks, and fixing broken wires.

As noted, the heaviest workload currently falls on the “Polotsk Electric Networks” and “Glubok Electric Networks” branches—additional crews have been dispatched from Vitebsk and Orsha to assist them.

As a reminder, an orange danger level remains in effect in the Vitebsk Region on August 23. Belhydromet warned that wind gusts could reach 21–24 m/s overnight in some areas of the region, while gusts of up to 15–20 m/s are expected in Vitebsk during the day.
