Soon.

U.S. President’s Special Envoy John Cole stated that he expects Belarusian political prisoners to be released soon. He made this statement to the New York Times.

John Cole acknowledged that Russian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dmitry Muratov had approached him with a request to facilitate an exchange of civilian prisoners between Russia and Ukraine. The American politician noted that he plans to use his connections to help Russian political prisoners as well.

However, Coale stated that he first wants to secure the release of the remaining Belarusian political prisoners. Coale said he expects a major exchange to take place soon.

Meanwhile, John Cole told the publication that since the start of U.S.-Belarusian negotiations, more than 500 political prisoners have been released.

As a reminder, as of August 22, 878 people have been recognized as political prisoners in Belarus.
