“Well, Belarusians, have we really hit rock bottom in the rental market?” she writes. “I found this listing in the ‘Minsk-Mir’ apartment rental group. I removed the address and contact information.” A young woman is offering to let you renovate her unfurnished apartment, pay the rent, and somehow live and work there—she even specified deadlines for finishing the renovations and “discounted” rent amounts.
What’s going on? Why did she write this, and why do I feel embarrassed? And the cherry on top—the owner is from Russia. Is it customary there to do your own renovations?”
