On August 20, in Romania’s exclusive economic zone, approximately 80 miles east of Constanța, another incident involving a drone occurred near the strategic Neptun Deep gas field. In the morning, the coast guard detected a marine drone loaded with explosives a few hundred meters from the gas production site. To neutralize the threat, two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled, and one of them destroyed the drone using its onboard cannon.
The information was confirmed by Romania’s acting Minister of Defense Radu Miruță, who posted a video of the drone’s destruction on social media with a caption stating that the country is defending its interests. The footage shows the fighter jet approaching the target and opening fire, after which the drone falls into the water.
