Mark Rutte warned Russians about the real consequences of participating in the war against Ukraine.

On June 3, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte addressed young Russians and their families at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Kiev, warning them of the real consequences of participating in a war against Ukraine. The press conference was broadcast by Suspilne Novini.

Rutte said Russia's actions "increasingly look desperate" and that it was losing about 30,000 military personnel every month.

"It loses more in one month than the USSR did in its 10 years in Afghanistan. The figures are unbelievable," he said.

The official then addressed young Russians and their families, warning that soldiers are sent to war with improper ammunition and equipment, and the chances of being wounded or killed are very high.

"I want to say that even if you are wounded, you will be left to suffer in the mud until you die. Take into account, tens of thousands of casualties on the RF side are not an abstraction. You will probably be one of them," the NATO secretary general emphasized.

Rutte said that the Russian economy is under considerable pressure and is not able to fully compensate for all the expenses that the war requires. He believes Russia should be forced to return to the negotiating table and end the war it "started 10 years ago." At the same time, the official noted that so far there is "no sign" of Moscow's readiness to stop.

While speaking, he also said that he had brought the entire NATO North Atlantic Council to Ukraine. According to him, this was "a historic first meeting of the council in Kiev" and a "powerful signal" of strong relations between the alliance and Ukraine.

Gensec assured that all 32 member states have confirmed their readiness to continue supporting Ukraine. He also emphasized Ukraine's need for air defense systems to protect against Russian ballistic missiles and further cooperation in drone and anti-drone technologies.
