Most Britons Regret The Decision To Leave The EU

Survey.

Ten years ago, the British decided to leave the European Union. Today, more and more of them say that if the referendum were held again, they would vote differently—in favor of remaining in the Union.

On June 23, 2016, 52% of Britons voted to leave the European Union, while 48% said they wanted to remain. Brexit supporters promised greater control over borders, more funding for the healthcare system, and a stronger position for the United Kingdom on the world stage.

A decade later, many Britons look back on the decision to leave the EU with regret. According to polls, most Britons view the consequences of Brexit negatively. This does not, however, indicate a clear desire to return.

“The UK made a mistake by leaving the EU”—that’s the view of 57% of those surveyed in a recent YouGov study. According to the anniversary report, 30% of respondents hold the opposite view.

Surveys show that two-thirds of respondents have experienced negative consequences when traveling abroad, 62% associate Brexit with a rise in the cost of living, and 56% believe it has had a negative impact on the economy. Meanwhile, 52% believe that leaving the EU has made it more difficult to combat illegal immigration.

At the same time, 48% of those surveyed support holding a second referendum within the next five years, 28% oppose it, while the rest are undecided.
