The Ukrainian Armed Forces Struck A Ferry Crossing Between Russia And Crimea

"Panagia" is not operating; freight traffic has been suspended.

Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian ferry “Panagia,” which was being used to transport military equipment and weapons from the Krasnodar Krai to the temporarily occupied Crimea. This was reported by the “Operational Headquarters – Krasnodar Krai.”

The vessel was used to transport Russian equipment and cargo to the peninsula, particularly due to restrictions on the use of the Crimean Bridge for freight transport.

The Russian side also acknowledges that the ferry was used as one of the alternative supply routes for troops in Crimea, including the transport of military cargo.

As of June 21, ferry service has been suspended. Moving forward, traffic is to be rerouted via the R-280 overland route, which passes through Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Mariupol, Melitopol, and Simferopol.
The official reason given for the restrictions is security risks, specifically the threat of new attacks and acts of sabotage.

The “Panagia” ferry became part of Russia’s alternative logistics system following partial restrictions on the Crimean Bridge, where certain categories of vehicles, including trucks, are prohibited from traveling.

According to open sources, the vessel was purchased in Greece and transferred to the Russian operator “Rosmorport.” It was operated by the “Taman Maritime Transport Company,” which provided ferry services in the Kerch Strait area.

The vessel began operating in the Black Sea in 2025 after several months of inactivity in Sevastopol.
