They were scared of the Ukrainian drones.

For the second year in a row, Russian authorities have decided not to hold the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg, sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense told Fontanka. According to them, there is still no corresponding decree from the government. No orders from above regarding preparations for the event have been issued either, even though rehearsals should already be in full swing at this time. The fleets are not planning any trips to St. Petersburg to participate in the parade either. “You understand, there are more pressing matters right now,” said the publication’s source.

Last year, the authorities canceled the naval parade without explaining the reasons for the decision. However, preparations for it were underway and were halted several weeks before the planned date of the event. In 2024, the Ministry of Defense canceled part of the parade near the naval base in Kronstadt for the first time. Prior to that, starting in 2017, warships had sailed through the Neva River annually on the last Sunday in July, when Russia celebrates Navy Day. Several hundred warships and support vessels took part in the event. The parade also included an aerial component, and fireworks were set off in the city after dark. Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the event, observed the proceedings alongside the defense minister and high-ranking military officials, and delivered a speech.

In early June, Ukrainian drones, during a massive attack on St. Petersburg struck the Russian corvette "Boyky", which was at the naval base in Kronstadt. This was reported by the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces Robert Brovdi (Madyar).
