Italy is sending about 100 soldiers and several fighter jets to Romania. The troops are being moved in order to train the Romanian army to counter Russian threats.

According to the publication, the mission was planned in advance, but the incident with the downing of a Russian drone in Galati on May 29 - accelerated its start.
According to government sources, the current operation will be different from the usual NATO air patrol mission. It will be conducted at the Mihail Kogelniceanu air base and will last about a month.
The Italian troops are expected to arrive on June 15. Soldiers at the military base in Constanta will train their Romanian colleagues to shoot down drones.
The mission will be accompanied by fighter jets, but it is also possible that other aircraft could be involved. In particular, drones that are designed to shoot down other drones.
