The U.S. president announced "something very positive and important."
Tehran has agreed to transfer to other countries enriched uranium from nuclear facilities destroyed by the US and Israeli armies during a military operation against Iran.
This statement was made by US President Donald Trump, writes The Washington Post. According to Trump, the White House currently has many agreements with Iran and "something very positive and important" is about to happen.
He did not go into details. He only added that Tehran has agreed not to develop nuclear weapons and will give enriched uranium to other countries.
At the time of writing this news, Iran has not yet officially commented on Trump's new statement about enriched uranium. The main goal of the US and Israeli military operation, which began on February 28, 2026, is the destruction of all Iranian nuclear facilities.
Washington and Jerusalem do not want to allow Tehran to develop nuclear weapons. In late March, U.S. and Israeli representatives announced the destruction of all Iranian nuclear facilities.
At peace talks in Pakistan on April 11 after a two-week truce, the U.S. and Iran also discussed Iran's nuclear program. It was the main topic of the talks.
According to media reports, the U.S. representatives (J.D. Vance, Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner) proposed that Tehran declare a 20-year moratorium on uranium enrichment. In response, the Iranian delegation agreed to such a moratorium for 5 years. Ultimately, the talks in Pakistan ended inconclusively.
Iran has previously repeatedly stated that it has the right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. For example, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, has said so. But the U.S. and Israel fear that Tehran could eventually develop nuclear weapons, which would be a new threat to the entire planet.
