An important staging area for Russian forces has been eliminated.
Troops of the Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a successful defensive and counteroffensive operation, completely defeating the occupiers’ strike force that was threatening Lyman and Izyum.
This was stated by the commander of the UAV company of the 23rd Assault Regiment, part of the National Guard’s 2nd Corps “Charter,” Yuriy Butusov during a live broadcast on the “Butusov Plus” YouTube channel, according to Censor.NET.
Details of Operation “Vivaldi”
“For the first time since the war began in 2022, troops of the Third Army Corps conducted a defensive operation across their entire area of responsibility. First, the enemy was completely halted, and then—having created an atmosphere of total chaos and uncertainty for the Russian command—a whole series of counterattacks, a whole complex of operations at the tactical level, was carried out covertly and suddenly. And across this entire sector, a counteroffensive was carried out, which yielded decisive results and led to the enemy’s defeat,” Butusov noted.
According to him, the Russian strike force, which had encircled Lyman from the north and threatened Izyum, was ultimately completely routed and pushed back to the Cherny Zherebets River and beyond.
Consequences
Thus, the most dangerous enemy bridgehead in this sector—which truly posed a threat of an imminent loss of Lyman—has been eliminated.
In his view, this was achieved thanks to qualitative changes in the army and the organization of troop command.
Butusov specifically emphasizes that for this operation, the Third Army Corps did not receive a single airborne assault brigade, a single assault regiment, or a single strike formation.
