One Of Russia's Largest Oil Refineries Is On Fire In Ufa

Drones attacked the capital of Bashkortostan for the second time this week.

Ukrainian drones attacked Bashkortostan on the morning of October 31. At around 5:40 a.m. local time, a drone alert was issued for the region, according to Kirill Pervov, chairman of the republic’s State Committee for Emergency Situations. Shortly thereafter, Rosaviatsiya reported the closure of Ufa Airport. According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel “Crimean Wind”, the drones attacked one of the three oil refineries located in the industrial zone in northern Ufa—the “Bashneft-UNPZ” refinery, with a capacity of about 6.6 million metric tons per year. However, Astra reports that the strike actually hit the “Bashneft-Novoyl” refinery (7.3 million metric tons). On Thursday, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the Bashkir Soda Company (BSK) plant in Sterlitamak—one of the largest chemical complexes in the Russian Federation.

North of the capital of Bashkortostan lies one of the country’s largest petrochemical and refining complexes, which includes the “Bashneft-UNPZ,” “Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim,” and “Bashneft-Novoyl,” with a combined capacity of 23.5 million metric tons per year. They are located right next to one another. Judging by footage published by eyewitnesses, a fire broke out in the industrial zone. One of the videos captured a drone flying over the city, and people reported seeing air defense systems in action. Exilenova+ also reports on a major fire at the Ufa oil refinery, citing local residents. People stated that two plants may have been targeted.

Local authorities have not yet commented on this morning’s attack on the industrial zone. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed a drone raid on Bashkortostan. According to the morning report, last night air defense and electronic warfare systems “intercepted and destroyed” 433 Ukrainian aircraft-type UAVs in the skies over the republic, as well as in the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Smolensk, Tambov, Volgograd, Rostov, Penza, Samara, Saratov, Orenburg, and Ulyanovsk regions, as well as in Tatarstan.

Previously, the industrial zone in Ufa was attacked on the night of September 23. Ukrainian news channels reported at the time that a fire had broken out near one of Bashneft’s oil refineries.
