Belarus Plans To Launch Rural Minibuses

A pilot project is being carried out in the Maloritsky District.

Belarus is considering expanding the practice of on-demand suburban passenger transportation. Andrei Gladkyi , head of the Department of Road and Urban Passenger Transport at the Ministry of Transport, told reporters about this yesterday, according to BelTA.

A pilot project has been underway since late September in the Maloritsky District of the Brest Region.

On-demand transportation works as follows: a bus or minibus follows a route or stops in a sparsely populated area only when passengers have submitted a request in advance. This ensures that residents of small settlements will not be cut off from cities: transportation is guaranteed to arrive if there is a request.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications developed this system to address the issue of transportation connectivity in regions with low passenger traffic.

“We’ll see how the project performs in the Brest Region, and starting in 2027, we’ll roll it out across the board so that people living in small towns have access to transportation services,” — noted Andrei Gladky.
