Certainly the use of modern tanks requires combined air cover, infantry and other armor especially with the advent of drone warfare. However to claim the M1A Abrams was or is "junk" is laughable. Although it's first use was in the first Gulf wars before drone warfare .. in just one battle in part due to its superior infrared sights and long range gun it and it's crews dominated Iraqi T-72s that were dug in the sand and manned by experienced Iraqi crews.

On February 26, 1991, Captain H.R. McMaster led nine M1A1 Abrams tanks and twelve Bradley Fighting Vehicles into a sandstorm in the Iraqi desert. On the other side were dug-in elements of the Republican Guard's Tawakalna Division, T-72 tanks, BMPs, and infantry positions prepared for a fight. Twenty-three minutes later, McMaster's Eagle Troop had destroyed over 30 Iraqi tanks, roughly 20 armored personnel carriers, and around 30 other vehicles. American losses: zero. That engagement was known as the Battle of 73 Easting.

Why not April, 1917? Easy the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank was not invented yet. By the way just a little history lesson for you dyed .. the Abrams M1A1, the Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters and the A-10 "Warthog" ground attack planes were initially designed in the 1970s with the goal of either deterring or stopping an invasion of Western Europe by the former Soviet Union's Warsaw pact armed forces, especially the overwhelming numbers of T-72 tanks. Since apparently the deterrence worked, the first opportunity to see these weapons dominate their Soviet counterparts was the Gulf War which they did with aplomb.

Does the advent of modern FOV drones negate their highly successful history? Of course no, but certainly changes in tactics and defensive weapare necessary to protect them.
The war in Ukraine is largely a defensive.. dare I say stagnant war .. and not one of mobility with combined air cover which the Abrams M1A1 and Apache were designed for.
