Lukashenko Let Slip About The Consequences Of Sanctions On Belarusian Potash

Lukashenko decided to refute the West’s “harsh attacks” and stated that Belarus would not be able to supply potash to Western markets “even if it wanted to,” according to "Solidarnast".

“These crude economic attacks by the European Union and the West as a whole haven’t gone away,” the dictator stated during a meeting with the head of the State Customs Committee, commenting on the issue of potash supplies.

He reported that “the reorientation of the flow of goods toward the East is underway.”

“Is it working, or not? What are the problems in this regard?” the president asked.

Painting a rosy picture of the situation with Belarusian potash, Lukashenko cited recent negotiations with the Americans as evidence. According to him, the Belarusian side alone cannot supply large volumes to the Americans.

“As far as I’ve been informed by the prime minister and the government, we’ve managed to shift our focus eastward. The negotiations with the Americans are proof of that.” And here many people are crying out: ‘Ah, potash!’ Even if we wanted to supply other markets—Western markets—we simply don’t have those volumes; everything is already contracted,” Lukashenko stated.

It is noteworthy that in a recent comment in The New York Times, U.S. Special Representative John Cole reported that Washington hopes the EU will indeed allow Belarus to resume shipments of potash fertilizers through Lithuania.
