Cleanup Following the Attack in Dnipro
This is not the first time that the plant in Dnipro, which produces “Oleina,” has sustained damage as a result of a Russian attack.
On September 10, Russian forces launched a massive strike on Dnipro. The attack resulted in the destruction of civilian infrastructure, fires, and loss of life. During the attack on Dnipro, a Bunge oil extraction plant—which produces, among other things, oil under the “Oleina” brand—was damaged.
This was reported the mayor of Dnipro Boris Filatov, noting that the facility is located in the central part of the city and has already been the target of Russian strikes on multiple occasions.
For example, on September 10 at 9:42 a.m., the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Alexander Ganza reported that a food processing plant had been damaged as a result of an enemy strike, without naming it.
“A food processing plant was damaged as a result of an enemy attack on Dnipro. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties,” reads the official statement from the authorities.
The mayor of Dnipro criticized the omission of the facility’s specific name in news reports and called for active coverage of this fact on the international stage.
“The whole city can see where those damned ‘Bandera rockets’ hit. It’s right in the heart of the city,” he wrote.
According to the mayor, the facility in question is specifically the one associated with the production of “Oleina” oil.
“The whole city can see that this is ‘Oleina.’ A facility that has been shelled more than once,” Filatov added.
At 2:07 p.m., the mayor of Dnipro reported that utility crews and heavy equipment are currently working at the site of yet another strike on “Oleina.” According to him, the damaged utility lines will be repaired in the coming hours, and public and other transportation on this section will resume by evening.
The mayor of Dnipro also noted that the plant is owned by the international agri-food company Bunge. Bunge itself confirms that it has been operating in Ukraine since 2002, produces vegetable oils, and owns an oil extraction plant in Dnipro. The company also lists “Oleina” as one of its Ukrainian brands.
“Everyone knows that this is AMERICAN property, owned by the Bunge Corporation. And that’s not all. Senator Blumenthal PERSONALLY visited the facility there recently! But these guys don’t give a damn about the Americans, their property, or the senators’ concerns. And we keep talking about some abstract, destroyed ‘enterprises.’ Instead of involving the State Department and shouting about it to the whole world,” said Boris Filatov.
What is known about Bunge and the plant in Dnipro
Bunge is an international agri-food corporation that has been operating in Ukraine since 2002 and is engaged in the processing of oilseeds, the trade in grains and oilseeds, and the production of vegetable oils. The company produces refined and unrefined vegetable oils, meal, lecithin, and hulls, which are used in the food and feed industries, as well as for the production of biofuels.

In Ukraine, Bunge owns oil extraction plants in Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, and the Kharkiv region, as well as port terminals and grain elevators. The facility in Dnipro produces and ships vegetable oils in bulk, as well as produces meal.
Bunge is the manufacturer of the “Oleina” brand, which, according to the company, has been available on the Ukrainian market for over 25 years.
