The dictator was concerned that he was being linked to the gambling industry.
Lukashenko made a show of getting angry at advertisements for the gambling industry, which had been operating successfully and thriving in the country for years with the full connivance of the authorities, BelTA reports.
“What do you call them: ‘spin the goose’—you’ve hung these ads everywhere. It’s gotten to the point where it seems as if my family is involved in this. My family… They’re picking on me every single day. They’re hounding me so that I’ll pay attention to this,” Lukashenko stated.
“What’s going on in this country: everyone here is ‘spinning the goose.’ Pay attention to this—take this seriously,” he instructed.
The phrase “spin the goose” became famous thanks to the betting company “Maxline,” in which singer Alexander Solodukha appeared.

As reported by the website Charter97.org, after casinos were banned in Russia in 2009, Belarus became one of the main hubs for the gambling industry in the region. One of the largest brick-and-mortar casinos operating in the country is Shangri La.
“Shangri La is owned by companies registered in Cyprus, which are linked to Alexei Oleksin—one of Lukashenko’s so-called “front men” who is subject to sanctions,” — says Ivashkevich.

The BRC’s investigations also mention H Casino, which operates in Minsk. Its investigative journalists link it to Turkish businessman Egemem Mustafa Şener. In addition, the BRC has uncovered a possible connection between H Casino and a former security guard for Alexander Lukashenko.
Other major casinos operating in Belarus include the “Opera” casino in Minsk and the “M1” casino on the Belarus-Russia border. Both are owned by Russian investors.
