The trade deficit is growing.
During the first month of summer, Belarus’s trade deficit in goods increased by more than half a billion dollars, reaching $2.78 billion by the end of the first half of the year.
By way of comparison: in May, the deficit increased by about $300 million compared to the previous month, and the cumulative figure at that time stood at $2.2 billion.
According to Belstat, from January through June 2026, the foreign trade turnover of Belarusian goods amounted to $50.3 billion. Exports accounted for $23.7 billion, while imports totaled $26.5 billion.
Compared to the same period last year (January–June 2025), total trade turnover rose to 121.3% in current prices, exports increased to 123.2%, and imports rose to 119.6%.
It should be noted that Lukashenko referred to the foreign trade deficit as his “headache” and “main problem”.
