A Lithuanian Club Has Invited "Ted Lasso" To Work As Their Coach

The management of the "Žalgiris" (Vilnius) women's soccer team has decided to invite the lead actor from the TV series "Ted Lasso" Jason Sudeikis to serve as their coach during a fall league match.
The fourth season of “Ted Lasso” premiered in August, in which the writers added a storyline about women’s soccer. Following this, “Žalgiris” recorded a video message on the Laisvės TV YouTube channel and offered Sudeikis the role of interim coach. The video’s creators also highlight Sudeikis’s Lithuanian heritage. The actor was born into a family with Lithuanian, Irish, and German roots.
The actor who plays Ted Lasso is promised complete freedom in working with the team, including in pre-match preparation and tactical decisions.
“Our players are eager for the support and new opportunities that Ted Lasso offers. Ultimately, we want to prove that in Vilnius, women’s soccer and humor have a place on the international stage,” explained Žalgiris president Andrius Tapinas.
The TV series “Ted Lasso” is a sports comedy about an American football coach from Kansas (U.S.) who comes to England to coach Richmond FC, despite having absolutely no experience in soccer. His arrival was part of a cunning plan by the club’s new owner, Rebecca Welton. She deliberately hired the coach she believed to be the most incompetent. Her goal was to get revenge on her ex-husband by destroying the team, which was the only thing he had ever loved.
The show, which premiered on Apple TV+ in 2020, won numerous Emmy and Golden Globe awards. After the release of the third season in 2023—which was considered the series finale—the creators decided to bring the show back. The fourth season premiered on August 5, 2026. In the new storyline, Ted Lasso returns to “Richmond” to coach not the men’s team, but the club’s women’s team, which is set to compete in the second division of English soccer.
