In 2025, the number of billionaires worldwide increased by 8.2% to a record 3,795. This is according to Altrata’s Billionaire Census study.
The United States took first place by a wide margin, home to nearly one-third of the world’s billionaires—1,265 people. Their number grew by 11.5% in 2024. China came in second with 363 billionaires (+13.1%), and Germany came in third with 221 billionaires on the list (+20.1%). Germany also posted the highest growth rate among the top 15 countries. Russia took fourth place with 151 billionaires. India came in fifth with 132 billionaires (+3.9%).
The total wealth of billionaires rose by 12.8% to a record $15.1 trillion. The 29 richest people on the planet account for 27% of the total wealth of billionaires—up from 7% in 2017. Analysts cited the boom in investments in artificial intelligence as one of the main factors driving growth this year.
