All Of Lukoil's Major Refineries Have Shut Down

A major Russian company is suffering huge losses.
Lukoil’s Nizhny Novgorod Refinery — “Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez” (NORSI) — has urgently suspended oil refining and the production of petroleum products following a fire caused by a drone attack on August 26. Three industry sources told Reuters from three industry sources.
Earlier on Wednesday, the region’s governor Gleb Nikitin reported a drone raid on facilities in the Nizhny Novgorod region, but he did not disclose the name of the affected facility.
The agency’s sources specified that the strike damaged individual processing units, as well as inter-workshop utility lines and general plant infrastructure. The sources were unable to specify a timeline for the plant’s restoration and resumption of operations.
Thus, with the shutdown of NORS, none of Lukoil’s major refineries in Russia are currently operational, Reuters notes. Earlier, Permnefteorgsintez (on August 21) and the Volgograd Refinery (on July 31) had already suspended crude oil processing.
NORS ranks fourth in the country in terms of oil refining volume and second in terms of gasoline production. The plant’s capacity exceeds 15 million metric tons of crude oil per year: the facility is capable of producing approximately 5 million metric tons of motor gasoline, more than 5 million metric tons of diesel fuel, over 2 million metric tons of fuel oil, and about 0.5 million metric tons of road bitumen.
This is far from the first such incident at the plant—due to drone attacks, NORSI had already halted production on July 2, June 24, May 20, and April 5.
Amid the plant’s shutdown, Lukoil did not offer for sale on Wednesday, through the St. Petersburg International Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, wholesale shipments of gasoline, diesel fuel, and other petroleum products produced by NORSI.
